Layla's Reunion Show Featuring Zookeeper's Palace! March 21st in Los Angeles

It's been almost six months since I moved to Hawaii and I fall in love with this place more and more each day.  I'm doing everything that I've always wanted to do.  I am back in school studying political science, I work for an organization that does marine policy research, I'm writing my second book, and I'm staying physically active by swimming regularly and practicing yoga. I know, tough life. ;)

As for music, I've been very inspired!  I wrote twenty new songs since I arrived, and I'm now working on recording my sixth solo album.  I'll be in Los Angeles for my cousin's wedding in March (performing the song for their first dance - yikes!) and some long-time musician friends of mine thought it would be great to do a reunion show.  Candice Harris and Matt Fonda, from the band Zookeeper's Palace were instrumental (pun intended) in making my second album, "Spilt Chocolate Milk" which we produced over six years ago (we even made a video!).  We, along with their bassist, Jason Lobell, are going to play my entire Spilt Chocolate Milk album as well as some of my new songs from my upcoming album! Their band is also in the process of recording their second album, Deliquesce, and will be performing at the Mint on 3/24.  Also joining us is the talented violinist, Dolly Dahdal, who will add a beautiful, symphonic touch to our set.

The show will be on Monday, March 21, at my fave secret venue, Bar Lubitsch in WeHo at 7:30pm (early for my fellow day job friends!).  It's a very small venue, so please buy your tickets asap.

***Presale special*** If you purchase your ticket by next Friday, Feb 26, you can bring a guest free of charge. :)

Purple Olive with Ernest and Pepper Gilchrist - Lost My Baby To The Hig...

DUSH

The album Dush (released only in digital version in August 2014) was recorded at The Grid and  co-produced by Christian Donaldson (Cryptopsy). Notable acts such as The Agonist and Catalyst hail their music from the same location/producer. Christian also laid guitar and bass on the tracks of Dush.
Currently the two original members of Dush (Mira Solo and Den Hagalaz) are working on producing an EP of some of their older songs with an EBM artist (Left Side Neighbour).

A new musical realm is rising on the complex map of modern aggressive music. Staking out new ground amid the countless categories of metal, the sound of bronze—intimate yet epic, fierce yet beautiful—has arrived. Its heralds are the two musical adventurers—the Queen, her Wizard and her Warrior—at the heart of Montreal’s Dush...
The term “bronze” is ideally suited to Dush. Brighter and warmer in appearance than most ordinary metals, bronze is an alloy, a fusion of copper with one or more other, non-metal elements. Likewise, Dush temper their basis in the focus and ferocity of heavy metal and industrial music with components from outside the parameters of the genres—consider the pop inflections in the chorus of “Circles” or the enveloping, mesmerizing mysticism of “Numb.” Moreover, among the physical properties of bronze is its resistance to rust, reflected in the timelessness of their sound.

Paradoxically, Dush are absolutely up the minute in their approach to aggressive music, yet at the same time, they draw on melodies and atmospherics that evoke ancient truths, summoning to mind the Bronze Age and the mysteries of the cradle of civilization.

Ivy Shades

After gaining notoriety in her hometown other opportunities were presented. Though she was known for her gritty, hard-hitting rhymes, her style, femininity and sex appeal sparked several modeling opportunities including photo shoots with Willie ESCO, Black Men’s Magazine, Hype Hair Magazine, and Karl Kani.

Ivy Shades was also known for wearing crazy eye wear at her shows which quickly caught on as a part of her image. Channeling her business background, she decided to branch off and create her own designer eye wear brand. She began designing for her entourage “Female Money Team.”

Her movement became so powerful through the popularity she gained that she was forced to release Ivy Shades Designer Eye wear as a brand which debuted in Houston, Texas for the first time on September 28, 2010. Shortly after the launch of the first line, sales spread across the United States, even taping into the International market.

Currently these star celebrities support the Ivy Shades Brand: Rihanna, Cee-Lo Green, and Lady Gaga just to name a few. Ivy Shades is earning her place in the Music and Designer industries and is positioning herself to make a lasting impression on the world. Even through the success of her designer eye wear, Ivy Shades still continued her journey as a recording artist now one in the same with her brand.

After the release of her third successful mix tape “I Co-sign Myself” in 2014 Ivy Shades started her own independent Record Label, FMT Music. Her debut studio album “Madam Chronicles” (2013) has everybody asking “Who is this Chick.” Although she is wildly popular and highly regarded amongst her male peers, even in her early years, Ivy Shades has always had a huge female entourage which advanced her movement and gained her a loyal fan base.

She is also the only female MC to have a record featuring the late Pimp C from the legendary hip-hop group, UGK. Her most recent performance was at Tre Day, 2014 in Houston where she debuted “Eye wear” from her new project. The first single, “Lap Dance” already has the streets buzzing.

In a recent interview Ivy Shades was asked to describe herself in one word. Her response was “Determined.” She went on to explain, “I have started a female movement, where in my eyes all females one day will work together, love each other, and stop the hate.” Ivy Shades Designer Eye wear is available in high end boutiques.  "Not one word but two": “She’s fantastic!” By Graham Sclater CEO Tabitha Music Publishing England

Anjali, raised in New Delhi till the age of 10, draws on her extensive training in classical piano, Indian Hindustani classical vocal training, and occasional moonlighting as a jazz pianist to create emotional and haunting melodies. Learning piano through the British school of music since the age of 4, Anjali’s early musical foundation was later strengthened by the contrast of her Indian vocal training, enabling her to begin writing her own songs and communicating in a way words alone never can.

After performing in venues throughout Chicago and Los Angeles, Anjali began a career as an engineer, which enabled her to embrace her greatest gift to date – motherhood. She recently seized the opportunity to create a full length album of songs inspired by her experiences as a wife and mother. Her songs are sonically captivating, blending rhythms and music from east and west. Her lyrics mirror the challenges, struggles and joys we all face in our lifetime, and combine with her powerful, angelic voice to yield a soulful and honest product.
