The CBAA is calling for applications from Australian community radio producers in the seventh annual instalment of the CBAA National Features and Documentary Series (NFDS). Telling a story of their community, participants are trained and mentored to take their audio storytelling skills to a new level. Enter by 30 March.

Alice Ansara, winner of the 2019 CBAA Community Radio Award for the NFDS, says of the project: "I sincerely appreciated the opportunity I was given, and I loved every challenging, excruciating moment of learning."

First Sounds Volume Two

Are you a new and emerging First Nations artist? The CBAA and First Nations Media Australia are thrilled to announce submissions for First Sounds Volume Two are now open. First Sounds is an innovative series of releases to deliver more Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander artists to Australian community radio. Head to firstsounds.indigitube.com.au to take part - entries close 30 March.

A panel of First Nations Media judges will select the best tracks and the CD will be distributed by CBAA’s Amrap to hundreds of community radio broadcasters and stations across Australia. All entries will be hosted on the Amrap and indigiTUBE sites for broadcasters to access for airplay.

Jacquie Riddell appointed Vice President

Phillip Randall, CBAA President and the CBAA Board, are pleased to announce the appointment of Board Member Jacquie Riddell as CBAA Vice President. Stepping into this role, Jacquie brings with her strengths in strategic transformation across media and the creative industries and highly developed skills in audience analysis, insights and data. Thanks also to Anne Frankenberg for her contribution as Vice President since November 2018. Anne will remain on CBAAs Board as a Director.

Ian Stanistreet announces retirement

The Community Broadcasting Foundation’s CEO, Ian Stanistreet, has announced his retirement. Ian’s 40-year career in community radio started as a volunteer in 1980. "Working for the CBF has been my dream job in many ways. While the challenges have at times been significant and complex the rewards have been much greater at both a personal and professional level", Ian said. Read the full story.

Calling for all future First Nations podcasters

Spotify’s Sound Up accelerator program returns for a second year to offer aspiring podcasters the opportunity to participate in a five-day workshop to be held in Sydney in May this year.

The program aims to amplify First Nations voices in Australia. All Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander artists, writers and creators are encouraged to apply. No previous podcasting experience is required – just a voice with something to say, a passion for the medium and an eagerness to bring a podcast idea to life.

2019 recipient, Rowdie Walden, says the program “gives space to minority groups who otherwise wouldn’t get a foot in the door”.

The podcast program will take place from 11 to 15 May 2020 at Spotify’s Sydney Headquarters. Find more information and apply here. Entries close 15 March.
